Nextopia Feed Specifications

Nextopia accepts Google Shopping Feeds in either XML or CSV (tab delimited) formats. In most cases, your Google shopping feed will suit your needs perfectly. In cases where you require parent-child relationships, color swatches, additional attributes, and other such requirements not supported by Google format, please see the Nextopia format specifications (which is really the Google format but with small additions).

Required Fields for the Feed

At minimum, Nextopia requires the following fields to be included in your feed:

  • Product ID
  • Name
  • Price
  • Description
  • Image
  • URL

Common Fields Used with NRO

Although you may include additional fields, a typical feed will include the following fields:

  • Product ID
  • SKU
  • Name
  • Price
  • Description
  • Image
  • URL
  • Category
  • Brand
  • Sale Price
  • Increment

Frequently Asked Questions

Configuring the Feed for Nextopia

How frequently does the data automatically pass from NRO to Nextopia?

By default, NRO will generate a new feed will be generated every 24 hours at 4am. This can be configured under Catalog / Feeds / Manage Feeds > Advanced Settings. Note: If you aren't sure what timezone your store is located in, you can configure the timezone under System / Configuration / General / General > Locale Options.

Nextopia (or other external services configured to work with GoMage FeedPro) will pick up the new data feed accordingly. Additional configuration may be required within the external service to specify the URL of the feed.

 

Why is my feed is disabled?

Your feed probably isn't disabled. When you select Catalog / Feeds / Manage Feeds, the screen shows that FTP Access is disabled (but not the entire feed). Your Nextopia feed doesn't rely on FTP Access or Auto-Upload settings, so those will both be set to disabled. Instead, your feed relies on the Auto Generate settings on the Advanced Settings tab. Each night at 4am (or whatever time your feed is set to), this new feed file is automatically generated: http://www.YOURSITE.com/media/productsfeed/nextopia.txt. Then, Nextopia gets the data from this feed and their search results are updated accordingly.

 

Why is my feed set to only include 100 products?

Your feed will include all products on your site. The Number of Products setting under File Creation Settings on the Advanced tab is set to 100 by default. This number does not reflect all the items in your feed. Rather, it's a performance enhancement setting we recommend leaving at 100. This option best optimizes the file creation for low memory servers or for stores with a large quantity of products.

IMPORTANT! DO NOT set Number of Products to 0 if you set the Export Disabled Products and Export Out of Stock Products fields to Yes.

 

How can I confirm that my feed is working as expected?

Log into your Nextopia control panel to monitor the status of your feed: http://MERCHANT.nextopiasoftware.com/datacenter-logs.php

Troubleshooting the Feed

What could cause the feed to not generate according to schedule?

Under Catalog / Feeds / Manage Feeds > Advanced Settings, you can check the date and time of the last feed generation. You should see that the feed completed shortly after 4am (or whatever time is specified for your feed).

If the feed isn't generating nightly, then the Nextopia search results will not reflect your current data, as Nextopia can only include whatever data is actually included in your feed file, i.e., http://www.YOURSITE.com/media/productsfeed/nextopia.txt.

If your feed isn't generating at night as it should be, possible reasons include:

  • Feed is bumping into a Full publish from Counterpoint that’s trying to process at/around the same time; you should adjust the timing of your publishes so they don't conflict (contact the Support Team for assistance)
  • Feed is bumping into another cron job at/around the same time (contact the Support Team for assistance on configuring cron jobs)
  • Feed has corrupt item data in it and file can’t complete beyond corrupt item

 

Why did my images disappear on the search results page?

In some cases, the item images may be missing from the search results page but are still visible on category and product detail pages. This can be caused by clicking the Flush Catalog Images Cache button without also re-generating the Nextopia product feed. The Flush Catalog Images Cache button under System / Cache Management removes pre-generated product images files from media/catalog/product/cache so the images no longer exist in the cache directories. However the feed file is still looking for the images in the now-empty cache directories, and when the feed can't find any cached images, the result is broken images on the search results page.

IMPORTANT! If you click the Flush Catalog Images Cache button, it's important to immediately regenerate the Nextopia feed (under Catalog / Feeds / Manage Feeds). Also, you must clear the image cache in the Nextopia control panel (found under image resizing).

Alternative Configuration: Nextopia Exporter

In some cases, the GoMage FeedPro may have issues successfully generating at night when scheduled. In many cases the issues can be resolved by adjusting the cron job settings or timings (see Troubleshooting above).

As an alternative solution to a feed, NCR can install the Nextopia Exporter files onto your NRO website, and allow Nextopia to reach directly into the database thus circumventing the need for a product feed. Once the Nextopia Exporter files have been installed on your site, you should disable the feed so it no longer attempts to run as scheduled. Many merchants will also use the GoMage FeedPro add-on for submitting product feeds to Google. However, if you are no longer using GoMage FeedPro, please contact services.retailapps@ncr.com to remove this add-on and cancel any future Annual Maintenance Plan fees, since it will no longer be used with Nextopia after the Nextopia Exporter files are in place.

Disabling the Feed, After Installing the Nextopia Exporter:

To disable the Nextopia feed in NRO, select Catalog / Feeds / Manage Feeds > Nextopia. On the Advanced Settings tab under Auto-generate Settings, change the status to Disabled.
