New and Sale Landing Pages

When using Improved Layered Navigation, the built-in features for New and Sale pages and filters are disabled. Instead, you will use the New and Sale pages and filters included with Improved Layered Navigation:

New Menu Selections
(when Improved Layered Navigation is used)

Old Menu Selections
(not used with Improved Layered Navigation)

To add New/Sale links to the navigation: Catalog / Improved Layered Navigation / Settings / Advanced Filters System / Configuration  / Theme Settings > Navigation
To add New/Sale filters to the left column: Catalog / Improved Layered Navigation / Settings / Advanced Filters System / Configuration / Catalog / Layered Navigation

Changing the Navigation Links:

By default, the links in the navigation bar will be named New and Sale. To change the link names — for example, Latest Arrivals and Specials— use Inline Translation (System / Configuration / Inline Translation). You can change the page's URL  — for example, www.mystore.com/sale to www.mystore.com/outlet — by changing the New and Sale Products URL Keys.

How to Create a Dynamic Brand Landing Page (can also be used for any attribute such as patterns, designers, models, varietals, etc.)

Select CMS / Pages, and create a new page, for example, brands. Add the following to the page content area (be sure to use text view, not WYSIWYG view, when pasting code snippets):

{ {block type=amshopby/list attribute_code=manufacturer header="All Brands" columns=2 template=amasty/amshopby/list.phtml}}

If you also want a block of featured brand logos, add this:

{ {block type=amshopby/featured attribute_code=brands template=amasty/amshopby/featured.phtml}}

IMPORTANT: When copying and pasting the above code snippet, you MUST remove the spaces between the {{ characters.

How to Dynamically Create Category Landing Pages

Select CMS / Static Blocks, and create a new static block, for example, category-thumbs. Add the following to the static block content area:

{ {block type=amshopby/subcategories template=amasty/amshopby/subcategories.phtml columns=3 order=position height=187 width=215 shownames=1 }}

IMPORTANT: When copying and pasting the above code snippet, you MUST remove the spaces between the {{ characters. See screenshot below for example.

Tip: You can use order=position or order=name, depending on your sorting needs.

How to Dynamically Add Brand Logos to Product Detail Pages

Important! You must also have ncr_producticons in order to dynamically display logo images on product detail pages. Please contact the Professional Services team for assistance.

  1.  Select CMS / Static Blocks and create a new static block, i.e., Product Page - Display Brand Logo.

  2. Copy and paste the following HTML code into the content area of the static block. Use the code view not the WYSIWYG view for this step:

    <div id="icons">
    <div id="icon-brand">
    { {widget type="ncr_producticons/widget_link" display_option="all" stock_method="always" product_icon="dynamic" attr_code_icon="brand" icon_folder="icons/brands" icon_ext="png" icon_link_dynamic="/shop-by/brand-#brand#.html" product_text_option="none" popup="tooltip" popup_block_id="tooltip-brand" }}
    </div>
    </div>

    <style>
    #icon-brand {margin-bottom:10px;}
    </style>

    <script type="text/javascript">
        jQuery('#icons').insertAfter('.product-shop .product-name');
    </script>

    IMPORTANT: When copying and pasting the above code snippet, you MUST remove the spaces between the {{ characters.

  3. Select CMS / Widgets and create a new widget, i.e., Product Page - Display Brand Logo, and attach the static block created in step 2 on the Widget Options tab.

  4. Select System / Cache Management and click the Clear Cache button
  5. Select CMS / Images & Other Files and create a new sub-folder for icons / brands (folder names must match this exactly)

  6. Upload brand logo image files into the icons / brands directory under CMS / Images & Other Files
  7. Images must be .png files
  8. Images must be named icon-brand.png where brand matches the brand name exactly, excluding any spaces or special charaters. For example, the image name for the Seven Sisters brand would be icon-sevensisters.png)

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I create attribute landing pages?

Yes. For example, you could create a landing page for all Nike products (e.g. Brand = Nike), or a landing page of just the black Nike shoes available in wide sizes (e.g. Brand = Nike and Color = Black and Width = Wide).

For more information, see the User Guide starting on page 52.

If I select more than one check box from the left column, it loads a blank page. How do I fix this?

Select Catalog / Improved Navigation / Filters Manage Categories and click the Load button. This will load all attributes that are marked as 'Filterable (with results)'. Once all the attributes are loaded, you can configure the details of each attribute accordingly. NOTE: It's important to note that if you don't load the filters, the add-on may not function properly, and you may encounter error pages or blank screens under certain conditions.

When I scroll to the bottom of a category page and click the button to go to the next page, it loads the next page but stays at the bottom. Why?

This is actually a feature of the Improved Layered Navigation add-on. When AJAX is enabled, pages don't refresh or scroll when reloading. To disable this feature, select System / Configuration / Amasty / Improved Navigation > Block Display and change Enable AJAX to No.

Why aren't the left nav filters working on New or Sale pages?

Select System / Configuration / Amasty / Improved Navigation. On the SEO tab, change the URL Type to Long with URL key to allow left nav filters to function as they should.

How can I get the tool tips to display? The icon just has a question mark but not the tool tip I entered.

Add the following to your CSS:
.amshopby-tooltip {z-index:999;}

On my New Arrivals page, why do some products have the 'New' icon overlay, but others don't? Shouldn't they all display the 'New' icon?

Improved Layered Navigation includes a feature that lets you determine the method by which items are considered "new". Without Improved Layered Navigation, items are always considered to be 'New' if the 'New Until Date' coming from Counterpoint is valid (i.e., not expired). With Improved Layered Navigation, you now have a choice: you can either use the New Until Date from Counterpoint, or you can use 'new in the last X days' to determine which items will display on the New page.To change the method, select System / Configuration / Amasty / Improved Navigation / Advanced Filters and edit the New Products Filtering Scheme field accordingly.

However, note that the icon overlays with the 'new' graphic will always use the 'New Until Date' from Counterpoint to determine which items get the 'new' icon. If you choose to use the 'new in the last X days' above, then you ,may have items on the New page that don't have icon overlays.

On my Sale page (or New page) the category links land on a 'Page Not Found' How do I fix this?

In some older versions of Improved Layered Navigation, certain URL's will land on a 'Page Not Found' based on the URL structure. To correct this, you need to hide the attribute names. Select System / Configuration / Amasty / Improved Navigation > SEO and change Hide Attribute Names to Yes.

I'm using the feature to dynamically create and display sub-category thumbnail pages, but they aren't showing up. What am I missing?

Due to routine security patches, it may be necesary to "whitelist" the following elements under System / Permissions / Blocks:

  • amshopby/subcategories, Status=Allowed
  • amshopby/featured, Status=Allowed
  • amshopby/list, Status=Allowed

When displaying "Images Only" or "Images and Labels" in the left column, what size images should I use?

The size of the images can vary according to your needs.

For "Images Only," the filters on the left will display as many images per row as will fit in a grid format. The left column is roughly 200px wide, so if your images are 50px each, then the left column will display ~4 per row (plus or minus a little room for padding between images). For "Images and Labels," the filters on the left will display one attribute per row.
